COVID-19

On March 13, 2020, the County of San Luis Obispo declared a local emergency due to the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in SLO County.

On March 18, 2020, the County of San Luis Obispo issued a Shelter At Home Order, effective March 19, 2020 at 5 PM. On April 16, 2020, the Order was extended through May 16, 2020. The County is now following all State guidance regarding Sheltering at Home and reopening.

On March 24, 2020, the Arroyo Grande City Council adopted Resolution No. 4975 expressly affirming actions of the County of San Luis Obispo related to the COVID-19 pandemic as applicable and enforceable within the City’s jurisdiction, including specifically County Emergency Services Director Orders 3 and 4, which establish regulations for the suspension of evictions and mandatory shelter at home regulations, respectively.

City of Arroyo Grande Response

On March 17, 2020, in response to the status of the COVID-19/novel coronavirus outbreak, the City Manager, acting within his authority as the City’s Director of Emergency Services, signed a Proclamation declaring the existence of a local emergency within the City of Arroyo Grande in order to gain access to additional resources. Pursuant to State law, the City Council ratified the action at its March 24, 2020 Regular Meeting by adopting Resolution No. 4974.

On July 14, 2020 City Council adopted two Urgency Ordinances. Review the City’s Ordinance regarding enforcing all State and County Orders related to COVID-19 and the ability to issue citations and penalties.

On June 15, 2021, all City offices fully reopened to the public and followed all COVID-19 safety protocols. 

Effective March 1, 2022, the State of California requirement that unvaccinated individuals mask in indoor public settings moved to a strong recommendation that all persons, regardless of vaccine status, continue indoor masking. The City policies align with the State's updated guidelines and suggestions. 

On March 8, 2022, the City Council returned to in-person meetings, with a virtual option available to the meeting participants. All City committees and advisory bodies will return to in-person meetings, following the March 8th City Council meeting.

Communities and households across the Central Coast are facing severe economic hardships as we try to overcome this COVID-19 crisis, and economic relief is on the way.

Local public and private leaders from both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties have come together as an informal coalition to provide economic relief. Resources as a result of this work can be found at www.RecoverCentralCoast.org.
